Later Times

The earliest written record referring to Auchencairn is in a charter of Edward I dated 1305. 'Aghencarne' is mentioned among lands pertaining to the Abbey of Dundrennan, along with the "isle of Estholm, Roskerald, Clonsinagh (Glenshinnoch), Barlockwood and Barlock".
