Sean Whittaker

Sean Whittaker moved to Auchencairn, Dumfries and Galloway, with his family, Shirley, Zoë and Robert in 2006 after spending many years making the two-hour trip from Cumbria to camp on the beautiful beaches of the Solway.Image

Sean soon found it totally impossible not to try, in his own way, to capture the ever-changing beauty of the skies and moods continually barraging him while either walking on the shore or working in the garden of his croft overlooking the Solway and distant mountains of the Lake District.

Working mainly with oil on canvas from the studio at his home, Sean can easily spend hours feeding his pure enjoyment of painting views of the local coast along with the more abstract visions in which he tries to capture the light, colour and sheer emptiness that are so much a part of this wonderful landscape.Image

‘My chosen medium of oil on canvas enables me to paint in an organically natural way, building, moulding and changing my subject as the atmosphere around me alters; therefore allowing me not only to create an image of what I see, but also to capture the moments in time that brought it about.’

Through this website, Sean not only wants to display his painting but also wants to share the places, inspirations and local history that bring it about.

If you have any ideas or thoughts or simply want to say hello please leave a message on the Comments page in the 'Other Things' section.
